Cleveland-based MetroHealth will be closing one of its dental clinics to cut costs amid financial challenges.
The dental clinic, located at Old Brooklyn Medical Center in Cleveland, will close Oct. 3. This is one of six office closures the health system announced Aug. 25 as part of its budget restabilization plan. The health system will also be closing two physical therapy offices and three other health centers.
The health system said expanding its footprint over the last decade has led to a duplication of services and operational inefficiencies. The closures are aimed at streamlining its operations and increasing access at single locations.
MetroHealth will continue to offer dental services at Ohio City Family Dentistry in Cleveland, MetroHealth Family Dentistry in Middleburg Heights and its Broadway Health Center in Cleveland, a spokesperson shared with Beckers.
MetroHealth noted that the cost of treating uninsured individuals in the Cleveland area has increased, with its philanthropic care costs doubling since 2022 and now exceeding $1 million a day, according to an Aug. 25 news release.
MetroHealth announced in July that it would be laying off about 125 employees while also pausing hiring for non-clinical roles and freezing spending on non-essential travel.
