New Jersey woman charged with practicing unlicensed dentistry

A woman in Old Bridge, N.J., has been charged with practicing dentistry without a license, according to a Feb. 27 news release from the South River (N.J.) Police Department. 

Police responded to a dispute between two individuals. While conducting a follow-up investigation, police learned dental procedures were being performed by an unlicensed individual. 

Ana Amato is charged with second-degree aggravated assault, third-degree unlawful practice of dentistry and third-degree financial facilitation of criminal activity.

The aggravated assault charge carries a possible sentence of five to 10 years. The third-degree charges each carry a sentence of up to five years. 

The investigation is still ongoing, the report said.
