The former St. Mary Health Center Medical and Dental Clinic in Wilmington, N.C., has reopened in a new space after its legal battle with the Basilica of St. Mary. WWAY 3 reported April 24.
The clinic is the city’s only surgical dental clinic that provides free services to low-income patients. It previously operated out of a space owned by the Basilica of St. Mary, but the clinic was served an eviction notice in August. A legal battle ensued, leading to the clinic filing a restraining order against the church.
The clinic was able to purchase a new building after receiving a $695,000 grant from the New Hanover County Community Endowment in December. As part of the move, the clinic has renamed itself to the New Hanover Outreach Clinic.
The expanded space includes four operating rooms and upgraded equipment.
