The number of orthodontic patients has reached the highest number recorded by the American Association of Orthodontists.
The AAO recently conducted its “Economics of Orthodontics and Patient Census Survey,” which gathers practice statistics, market data and additional information from its members. The association conducted 635 surveys this year.
The AAO said in a July 9 news release that it recorded the highest patient count since the survey was launched in 1987. According to the survey, the number of total patients in active treatment per member increased from 574 in 2022 to 696 in 2024.
The organization estimated that the total number of adult patients being treated in the U.S. by AAO members is 1.9 million adults, up from 1.6 million in 2022.
