Claude Adams, DDS, a Durham, N.C.-based dentist, donated the money as a bequest. He died in 2018.
In recognition of Dr. Adams, UNC will rename its dental school the UNC Claude A. Adams Jr. and Grace Phillips Adams School of Dentistry.
The donation will also go toward scholarships, professorships, staff awards and services programs for students.
