Smile Brands 5-year recap: 15 big moves

Irvine, Calif.-based Smile Brands is one of the largest DSOs in the U.S. with nearly 700 affiliated practices in 30 states. 

Here are 15 notable moves from the company in the last five years: 

2017

  • Glassdoor honored Smile Brands with its Employee's Choice Award in December.
  • Smile Brands partnered with Santa Barbara, Calif.-based Johnson Family Dental to acquire a California Dental Group office in Port Hueneme, Calif.

2018

  • Glassdoor Employees' Choice Awards honored Smile Brands CEO Steven Bilt as a Top CEO in 2018.
  • The DSO partnered with Las Vegas-based P3 Dental Group, a seven-practice dental group. 
  • The organization appointed Kevin Rogus as vice president of mergers and acquisitions.

2019

  • In January, Smile Brands made a strategic investment in Schaumburg, Ill.-based DecisionOne Dental Partners.
  • The DSO received the 2019 Gold Stevie Award for Health Products & Services Employer of the Year for the second consecutive year in a row.
  • Smile Brands made the 17th spot in Comparably’s ranking of happiest employees for large companies. 
  • In November, Smile Brands announced the opening of its first Aspire Dental office in Irvine, Calif.

2020

  • In January, Smile Brands affiliated with its 800th dental practice. 
  • In August, Smile Brands inked a partnership with SmileDirectClub to offer the teledentistry company's clear aligners at its practices.
  • Smile Brands added Houston-based Southern Dental Associates to its network.
  • The company completed its acquisition of Mondovi, Wis.-based Midwest Dental in December.

2021

  • In August, the DSO welcomed Elizabeth Macready as its director of mergers and acquisitions.

2022

  • Smile Brands added 14-office G's Dental Studio to its portfolio.
