Western Dental completes 63-practice DSO acquisition

Irvine, Calif.-based Western Dental’s parent company Premier Dental Holdings finalized the purchase of The Guardian Life Insurance Company of America’s dental service organization.

The acquired DSO comprised 63 offices in Texas, California and Alabama. With the acquisition, Western Dental adds 36 supported offices in Texas, which is branded as South Texas Dental. Another 21 offices were added in California, 13 of which were branded as Access Dental and eight as Blue Hills Dental.

Western Dental added six practices in Alabama branded as Vital Smiles. While details of the transaction were not disclosed, the deal was finalized Dec. 31, 2018.

With the acquisition, Western Dental now supports 312 practices throughout five states. The acquisition also catapulted Western Dental’s Texas segment, bringing the total number of offices up to 68. Western Dental is now the second largest DSO in Texas.

In California, Western Dental now comprises 221 supported offices.
