Many employed Americans lack dental insurance through their employers, leading to high rates of dental diseases, according to The Detroit News.
Here are four observations:
1. Employed adults in the United States lost more than 164 million hours of work every year to dental disease or dental visits.
2. For every adult 19 years or older without medical insurance, there are three adults without dental insurance, leading to high rates of dental diseases. Approximately 108 million people in the United States do not have dental insurance.
3. Employers are more likely to have regular checkups if the appointments are covered by their employer's health plan. More than 80 percent of employees with dental benefits routinely go to the dentist twice a year as opposed to a mere 34 percent of those without benefits.
4. To ensure the health of employees, employers should aim to provide dental coverage and encourage employees to get regular check ups.
