Dr. Stephenson pled guilty to tax evasion. He was ordered to pay a $75,000 fine and perform 280 hours of community services. Free dental care provision is included in the community service requirement.
As early as 2011, Dr. Stephenson began diverting a portion of his business receipts. The dentist would deposit patient and insurance checks into his personal bank account.
Dr. Stephenson failed to report $1.2 million in taxes from his dental practice revenue. He has paid back more than $900,000 in back taxes and penalties.
