Here are 15 updates from 12 DSOs in May, including data breaches, lender moves, investments and more.
1. Dallas-based Apex Dental Partners affiliated with five new practices in Colorado, bringing its total network to 65 practices across eight states. The DSO also expanded its doctor-led ownership model with a new group of equity partners.
2. Troy, Mich.-based Smile Partners USA expanded its network to Massachusetts, the seventh state the DSO supports practices in. The DSO also selected Denticon by Planet DDS as its enterprise practice management platform.
3. Fort Lauderdale, Fla.-based Vitana Pediatric & Orthodontic Partners added its first Maryland practice.
4. S&P Global Ratings raised its issuer credit rating on Effingham, Ill.-based Heartland Dental, upgrading the issue-level rating on its senior secured debt to from “B-” to “B.”
5. Jenks, Okla.-based Lumio Dental suffered a data breach affecting 500 individuals.
6. Morrisville, N.C.-based Affordable Care will reportedly be taken over by direct lenders as part of a restructuring agreement to reduce the DSO’s debt.
7. Minneapolis-based Park Dental Partners brought in $62.7 million in revenue during the first quarter of 2026.
8. Sharon, Mass.-based Qualitas Dental Partners is expanding and modernizing seven of its practices with significant investments.
9. Chicago-based Aspen Dental will pay $2 million in penalties and $300,000 in restitution to settle allegations that it unlawfully interfered with dental operations and engaged in misleading advertising.
10. Sacramento, Calif.-based Straine united its three operating companies, Straine Dental Consulting, Straine Dental Analytics and Straine Dental Management, under one brand.
11. Boca Raton, Fla.-based Sage Dental partnered with Curaechoice to expand access to dental care to employees and their families.
12. Henderson, Nev.-based PDS Health and CareQuest Innovation Partners partnered to scale blood pressure screenings during dental visits. PDS Health also joined AARP’s AgeTech Collaborative to enhance healthcare for the aging population.
