Henry Schein, Delta Dental & more: 6 dental companies, practices making headlines

Between closing million-dollar funding rounds and proposing plans to influence the opioid epidemic, dental companies and practices made headlines this week.

Five companies in the news:

1. Touro Dental Health, an 81-chair clinic, plans to slash opioid prescriptions by 80 percent.

2. Pearl, a dental spinoff company devoted to artificial intelligence, closed an $11 million Series A funding round and is set to launch three new products.

3. Delta Dental of Illinois notified an unknown number of members about a phishing attack that may have exposed members' protected health information.

4. Roanoke, Va.-based Spencer Dental has been accused of using unsterile dental instruments on pediatric patients.

5. Delta Dental of Wisconsin proposed on May 8 building a $25 million corporate headquarters in Stevens Point, Wis.

6. Henry Schein reported a slight dip year over year — 0.1 percent — in dental sales, totaling $1.5 billion for the first quarter for 2019.
