California dentist gets 5 years in prison for violating probation in child pornography case

Gary Klugman, DDS, has received a five-year prison sentence for violating probation after being convicted on charges of possessing child pornography and an illegal assault weapon, reports KION-TV.

In January 2016, law enforcement raided the home and dental office of the Salinas, Calif.-based dentist. During the raid, investigators found more than 600 images containing child pornography. Police also discovered Dr. Klugman was in possession of 35 firearms, and one had an illegally threaded barrel.

The dentist entered a no contest plea for both the child pornography and illegal firearm charges. He was placed on felony probation in May 2020, and was serving house arrest in October when the Probation Department found several switchblade knives in his home.

Dr. Klugman was charged with violating his probation and possession of switchblade knives. In December, he pleaded guilty and admitted to violating his probation, reports KION-TV.

On March 24, a judge sentenced him to five years in prison for the violation. The judge said Dr. Klugman was given the opportunity to comply and had "no expectation he would comply in the future," according to KION-TV.
