Details:

1. A building in Sewickley, Pa., housing apartments and a dental office run by Mark Marshall, DMD, was damaged after a boiler exploded in the basement. No injuries were reported. The cause of the explosion remains under investigation. A zoning officer deemed the building unsafe and posted notices on the property stating occupancy is prohibited until further notice.

2. A tornado that ran through Iberia Parish, La., Dec. 13 damaged the office of Mark Derouen, DDS. The tornado hit when multiple patients and staff were inside the building, but no one was seriously injured despite the building being severely damaged.

3. A break-in into Rosy Dental in Fountain Valley, Calif., on Dec. 13 resulted in damage to the practice’s front door and part of a wall connecting to a pharmacy next door. Nothing from the dental office was stolen. Practice owner Rosa Tran, DDS, said she believes the break-in was targeting the pharmacy and that her office was used as a means to get into the other building.
