Six states have recently disciplined dentists for violations related to patient care, permit requirements and more.
Seven updates:
1. The North Carolina Board of Dental Examiners took emergency action against the license of Paul Jeffrey Lowe, DMD, after allegedly receiving evidence that Dr. Lowe was impaired at his dental office and was unfit to practice.
2. Marko Kamel, DDS, owner of a dental clinic in Minnesota that abruptly closed, was denied reinstatement of his dental license by the Minnesota Board of Dentistry.
3. The Washington Dental Quality Assurance Commission and Kuzi Hsue, DDS, entered into an agreed order on his dental license. In December 2021, Dr. Hsue extracted 20 teeth from a patient's mouth instead of the six that was agreed upon with the patient. Dr. Hsue did not acknowledge his mistake, did not have complete or accurate patient records, and did not provide post-op instructions to the patient.
4. Calvin Weber, DDS, surrendered his license to the Iowa Dental Board in March. His license was suspended in January over charges of "improper sexual contact with or making lewd, lascivious or improper remarks or advances to a patient." The Iowa Dental Board suspended his license on an emergency basis after deeming Dr. Weber "an imminent threat to public safety."
5. Lawrence Duffy, DMD, a dentist in Florida, agreed to voluntarily relinquish his dental license following using general anesthesia without a permit.
6. Thomas Endicott, DDS, has had his dental license revoked by the Utah Division of Professional Licensing following unprofessional conduct.
7. The Utah Division of Professional Licensing revoked the controlled substance license and deep sedation and general anesthesia permit of a Utah dentist.
