The big players in the DSO industry have been active with practice additions, new initiatives and securing new capital in the past few months. Here are 13 updates on five of the largest DSOs in the U.S., as reported by Becker’s over the past three months.
Heartland Dental (Effingham, Ill.)
- Heartland Dental launched six de novo practices across three states in June.
- The DSO added eight practices to its network in May, including five de novo practice openings and three affiliations.
- The company expanded its revenue by 7% and received a credit upgrade from S&P Global Ratings.
The Aspen Group (Chicago)
- Aspen Dental launched a five-year commitment to deliver up to $100 million in donated dental care and community service through its Healthy Mouth Movement.
- The company opened a number of practices, including locations in South Carolina, Georgia and Missouri.
- The Aspen Group has appointed Rafeh Masood as chief commercial officer.
PDS Health (Henderson, Nev.)
- PDS Health opened five new de novo practices in June, spanning four different states.
- The American Dental Association’s Forsyth Institute selected PDS Health Technologies to implement a dental-optimized instance of Epic at its in-house dental clinic in Somerville, Mass.
- The organization is doubling down on medical-dental integration and is playing the long-game to create long-term success.
Smile Doctors (Dallas)
- Smile Doctors appointed Jeff Knudson as CFO as the company prepares for its next phase of growth amid rising demand for orthodontic care.
- The organization secured an additional $125 million in growth capital to invest in new affiliations, de novo expansion and support for affiliated practices as it closes in on 600 total practices.
Dental Care Alliance (Sarasota, Fla.)
- Dental Care Alliance expanded its partnership with dental AI company Overjet, integrating AI across three dental workflows.
- The company entered into an agreement with its existing lender group to reduce its debt by more than $1.1 billion and receive $95 million in new capital.
