What teledentistry companies have achieved so far this year

Teledentistry being more widely used in the dental industry has set these companies up for continued growth.

Halfway through this year, take a look back at what has been accomplished so far:

1. Los Angeles-based Pearl obtained a patent for its radiology system used to visually present AI-detected dental conditions. It was also granted a U.S. patent in March that covered its machine learning process restoration fabrication.
2. Dental aligner company 123-Align launched an at-home clear aligner system earlier this month that allows patients to take impressions of their teeth at home. The company then uses 3D-printing technology to create the aligners.
3. Healthcare startup Dr. Clobo launched a new oral camera and consulting app that allows patients to photograph their mouth and send those pictures to healthcare professionals through the app for diagnosis.
4. Overjet acquired dental claims review company American Dental Examiners. The company also gained FDA 510(k) clearance for its Dental Assist product, which uses artificial intelligence to measure bone levels in radiographs.
5. Planet DDS launched the industry's first patient referral management system through its cloud-based Denticon software.
6. Align Technology released the iTero Workflow 2.0 software and the iTero Element 5D imaging system to enhance operations at dental practices.
7. SmileDirectClub landed its first New York DSO partnership in February with Long Island, N.Y.-based National Dental. In addition to launching new clear aligners in January, the company also partnered with dental insurance provider Green Shield Canada to deliver in-network coverage of SmileDirectClub's orthodontic care.
8. SprintRay and SICAT began a partnership in May to develop an integrated software that will help dentists create surgical guides.
9. Dentulu partnered with mobile healthcare company Symphony MedDent Solutions to create a cohort of mobile dental offices powered by Dentulu's software platform. The company also partnered with Simply Mobile Dentistry to offer patients virtual visits.
10. Arfona, Dentulu and Impress3D began collaborating in April to provide more affordable tooth replacement options for patients.
11. Clean aligner company SmylUSA entered a partnership with The TeleDentists to offer patients virtual access to TeleDentists providers.
12. In April, Dentulu announced it was expanding its services and had acquired Robohealer AI.
13. In March, Dental Intelligence acquired Modento, a developer of a patient management system.
14. Teledentistry.com began working with the University of Nevada-Las Vegas School of Dental Medicine in February to educate residents on how to use teledentistry services within hospital emergency rooms.
15. DialCare Teledentistry began offering its services to partners from Careington International through the company's new teledentistry program.
16. Hamilton, N.J.-based P&R Dental Strategies entered a partnership with Toronto, Canada-based Denti.AI Technology to develop AI-assisted dental image analysis tools that will be added to P&R's existing solutions for payers.
