8 dentists making headlines

Eight dentists making headlines:

1. Arwinder Judge, DDS, chief clinical officer at East Syracuse, N.Y.-based Aspen Dental explained how the dental service organization has grown to more than 750 branded practices.

2. In a lawsuit, filed last week, a dental hygienist at New Martinsville (W. Va.) Dental accused dentist Adam Pendleton, DDS, of sexual harassment.

3. East Syracuse, N.Y.-based Aspen Dental relocated its practice in Mount Pleasant, Ill., which is run by Alifiya Barodawalla, DDS.

4. Ventura, Calif.-based dentist and University of Southern California associate professor Homayoun Zadeh, DDS, pleaded not guilty to conspiring to launder money and commit fraud in the nationwide college admissions scandal.

5. James MacAlpine, DDS, pleaded guilty to tax evasion and owes the government $1.9 million, which includes interest and penalties.

6. Boston-based Harvard University School of Dental Medicine's Dean Bruce Donoff, DMD, MD, announced April 12 that he will step down from his position Jan. 1, 2020.

7. A grand jury charged former Mt. Vernon, Mo., dentist Thomas Alms, DDS, and his wife, Laura Alms, with arson for allegedly setting fire to Dr. Alms' dentistal practice Jan. 2, 2018, and later filing the arson as an accident.

8. A judge sentenced former director of Cleveland-based MetroHealth Hospital System's dental program Edward Hills, DDS, to 15 years in prison for his role in a conspiracy to defraud the hospital through a series of bribes and kickbacks that totaled hundreds of thousands of dollars.
