16 dental updates in California, New York and Texas

California, New York and Texas have the most active dentists in the U.S. Here are 16 dental updates from these states that Becker's has reported on since April 21:

California

1. West Coast Dental and Orthodontics opened a multispecialty office in Calimesa.

2. Western Dental opened an office in Arroyo Grande.

3. Allied OMS affiliated with Peninsula Center Dental Implants & Oral Surgery in Daly City.

Texas

1. The Texas Dentists for Medicaid Reform group filed a complaint with the Texas Health and Human Services Office of the Inspector General over delays in the credentialing of Medicaid dentists.

2. A woman in Texas was arrested for practicing dentistry without a license.

3. Brent Stephens, DDS, opened Panola Dental, his second office, in Carthage.

4. Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center School of Dental Medicine in El Paso launched its inaugural dental dean's council. 

5. Marquis Center in Wichita Falls was renamed to Doctors Implants after being in practice for nearly 50 years.

6. Hanife Bayraktaroglu, DDS, a prosthodontist at Smile Rehab Center in Southlake, completed more than 110 dental procedures with the Yomi robot in the past year.

7. Dentists at UTHealth Houston School of Dentistry are teaming up with the Hope Clinic to provide dental care to underserved communities. 

New York

1. Kings Highway Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery, based in New York City, joined Leading Edge Oral Surgery, a dental brand of Premier Care Dental Management.

2. Lake Placid-based Adirondack Health Dental Care is still unsure as to when the clinic will close.

3. Medicaid dental coverage for adults in New York is being expanded after a legal settlement.

4. Farzad Sani, DDS, will spend just under $5 million to add a location in Niskayuna to his dental group practice Pediatric Dental Group of New York.

5. Rome Mayor Jacqueline Izzo proposed $500,000 in funding to create a dental hygienist program at a local college.

6. A former employee at a dental office in Geneva was convicted for stealing more than $20,000 from the practice.
