5 dental school updates to know

Here are five notable dental school updates Becker’s has reported on since Aug. 25:

1. Appleton, Wis.-based Fox Valley Technical College celebrated an expansion to its dental program. The school invested $2.1 million into growing its dental program, adding six more treatment chairs and opening a new lab with 12 dental simulators. 

2. The Westmoreland County Community College Dental Hygiene Program is participating in a pilot program to assess the role of salivary testing on improving preventive dental care for underserved populations in Pennsylvania.

3. Jeanne Sinkford, DDS, PhD, the first female dean of a U.S. dental school, died at the age of 92.

4. The University of Pikeville (Ky.) received initial accreditation from the Commission on Dental Accreditation for its new dental school. 

5. Cleveland-based Northeast Ohio Medical University celebrated the opening of its Bitonte College of Dentistry by welcoming its inaugural class of 52 students.
