How teledentistry, artificial intelligence grew in the dental industry in 2023

From industry partnerships to product launches, here are more than 30 updates from artificial intelligence and teledentistry companies this year: 

1. Dental supply company Patterson Dental partnered with dental AI solutions company Pearl to add Pearl's AI technology into its practice management software.

2. Dental artificial intelligence company Overjet received FDA 501(k) clearance for its Periapical Radiolucency Assist device. Overjet also received FDA clearance allowing its AI technology to be used with younger patients. 

3. Denti.AI earned FDA 510(k) clearance for its artificial intelligence-powered imaging technology.

4. Presto Smile launched an artificial intelligence-powered app to provide dental mockups to patients. 

5. The University of Pittsburgh School of Dental Medicine announced it would add artificial intelligence technology to its classrooms through a partnership with Bola AI.

6. Waltham, Mass.-based 42 North Dental announced its plans to fully roll out use of VideaHealth's artificial intelligence technology after seeing positive results in its network. 

7. Bola AI and Pearl teamed up to combine their dental artificial intelligence products into one package.

8. Digital dental solutions provider 3Sixty and AI company Atomica.ai partnered up to launch a guided surgery program for dental professionals. 

9. Sevāredent Sourcing Solutions, a dental group purchasing organization, integrated Overjet's dental AI into its contract portfolio that serves 2,000 practices.  

10. Lumio Dental selected VideaAI as its dental AI software of choice to improve patient experiences and increase treatment production. 

11. Planet DDS teamed up with Pearl to integrate Pearl's dental radiology AI program into Planet DDS' cloud imaging and practice management softwares.

12. DentaQuest and teledentistry.com teamed up to give DentaQuest members access to virtual dental providers at any time. 

13. Teledentistry and clear aligner company SmileDirectClub partnered with Thérapie Clinic, an aesthetic treatment provider in the U.K. and Ireland, to open eight SmileShop locations.

14. Pearl was granted a patent for the computer system technology used in its Second Opinion chairside software. 

15. Dexis earned FDA clearance for the latest release of its DTX Studio Clinic, an artificial intelligence dental imaging and diagnosis software.

16. VideaHealth gained FDA 510(k) clearance for its interproximal bone level measurement tool for periodontal disease assessment.

17. VideaHealth received a patent for Videa Assist, the company's AI software platform, a dental imaging AI that aids dentists in identifying dental diseases in X-ray images and matches those images to patient records.

18. Delta Dental of Arkansas partnered with Teledentistry.com to offer 24/7 access to virtual dental visits.

19. SmileDirectClub launched SmileMaker, its artificial intelligence-guided scanning platform, in the U.S. It also launched a new clear aligner treatment, CarePlus, in February.

20. DentalMonitoring, an orthodontic services platform powered by artificial intelligence, launched ScanAssist, the only scanning process in orthodontics that is AI-guided. 

21. Virtual Dental Care launched dental.com, a teledentistry service that allows patients access to dental care from their homes. 

22. Pittsburgh-based North American Dental Group announced it would add Overjet's artificial intelligence technology to its network. 

23. Kells, an oral health artificial intelligence company, and Liberty Dental Plan Northeast, a dental benefits administration company, teamed up to provide underserved communities with dental health evaluations. 

24. Oryx Dental Software and Pearl partnered to add Pearl's Second Opinion artificial intelligence software.

25. Glidewell, a dental lab and technology company, expanded its artificial intelligence offerings with the addition of Overjet's technology.

26. Dental equipment manufacturer Planmeca integrated Pearl's AI technology into its robotic imaging software.

27. Oak Dental Partners selected VideaHealth to be its AI partner.

28. Henry Schein partnered with VideaHealth and Bola AI to integrate their AI programs into the company's practice management software.

29. Bola AI and Curve Dental teamed up to provide more dental practices with access to Bola AI's voice charting system.

30. Walmart began offering teledentistry services to its customers through a partnership with oral healthcare company Quip.

31. Clear aligner company Candid launched a multi-year partnership with SoftSmile, an artificial intelligence orthodontics company.

32. Dental technology company MouthWatch launched a virtual care platform offering access to video visits with dentists, care coordination and medical-dental care integration. 

33. New England Dental Group partnered with Overjet to add artificial-intelligence-powered X-ray analysis to its practices.

34. Call management software company Patient Prism launched an artificial intelligence-powered patient call monitoring system for dental practices. 

35. Teledentistry company Dentulu announced it would integrate Pearl's artificial intelligence technology into its network.

36. Dallas-based DSO DECA Dental Group announced it would add Overjet's artificial intelligence technology to its Ideal Dental brand. 

37. Chicago-based DSO Bright Direction Dental announced it would add Overjet's artificial intelligence technology to its supported practices.

38. Effingham, Ill.-based Heartland Dental announced it would add VideaHealth's artificial intelligence technology to its more than 1,700-practice network.
