From a $650 million acquisition to the first dental passport for patients, here are 15 dental technology and AI updates for dental leaders, as reported by Becker’s during the third quarter of 2026.

  1. Dental Intelligence, a practice management software company, agreed to settle a proposed class-action lawsuit for $5.75 million.
  2. The University of Illinois Chicago College of Dentistry completed its transition to Epic, joining UI Health on a unified electronic health records system.
  3. Royal Palm Beach, Fla.-based Novudentics became the first dental practice to issue patients a Dental Passport — a portable, patient-owned digital record built by Intake Dental that travels with the patient rather than remaining in a single practice’s system.
  4. Francisco Partners, a global investment firm, entered into a definitive agreement to acquire healthcare and dental technology company Weave.
  5. Nashville, Tenn.-based Specialty Dental Brands partnered with Lightspun, an AI-powered dental insurance administration platform, to automate its provider onboarding and credentialing.
  6. Archy, an AI platform for dental practice management, secured $50 million in series C funding.
  7. Dental technology platform Intelibly entered into a strategic relationship with DenteMax, a dental network management company.
  8. Dental AI company Pearl launched Second Opinion 3D, marking the first time Pearl’s imaging AI is available as a commercial product for general dentists.
  9. Trust AI launched its RCM Hub, a fully staffed revenue cycle operation built into its Isaac PracticeOS platform.
  10. Researchers at the University of Rochester (N.Y.) Eastman Institute for Oral Health received a five-year, $3.1 million grant from the National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research to develop an AI-powered platform designed to detect oral disease outside of traditional dental clinics.
  11. A court in China issued a judgment in favor of Tempe, Ariz.-based Align Technology in its clear aligner patent infringement battle against Shanghai-based Angelalign Technology.
  12. Dr. Oluwabunmi Tokede, a researcher and associate professor at the UTHealth Houston School of Dentistry, was awarded a five-year, $3.54 million grant to develop OpenMouth, an AI-powered research platform.
  13. About 30% of dentists do not currently use AI and never plan to, according to a report from the American Dental Association’s Health Policy Institute.
  14. Dental AI company Velmeni received 510(k) clearance from the FDA for an AI-powered 3D cone beam computed technology dental imaging software.
  15. Willis & Associates Family Dentistry, largest doctor-owned dental group in Virginia, onboarded Overjet’s AI platform.
