Aspen Dental recap: 34 moves in the last 5 years

Chicago-based Aspen Dental is one of the largest DSOs in the U.S., with a network of nearly 2,000 dentists and more than 1,000 dental practices in 45 states.

Here are 34 big moves from the organization since 2017:

2017

  • Aspen Dental entered a multiyear partnership with Nascar to promote oral health awareness in March.
  • In April, 600 Aspen Dental practices from 35 states donated $30,795 to the Oral Cancer Foundation in recognition of Oral Cancer Awareness Month. 
  • Aspen Dental opened its first Louisiana office in May.
  • In September, Aspen Dental said its Healthy Mouth Movement provided $10.4 million in dental care since its launch in 2014.

2018

  • Aspen Dental kicked off 2018 with a new marketing campaign and initiative to open a new office every five to six days.
  • The DSO announced its plans to open a second headquarters in Chicago. 
  • In July, Aspen Dental signed an agreement with Align Technology to equip all Aspen Dental practices with Align's iTero Element intraoral scanner.
  • Aspen Dental opened four practices in different states Sept. 25.
  • In September, Aspen Dental opened its 700th U.S. office in Nokomis, Fla.
  • Aspen Dental welcomed Richard Parr as chief legal officer.
  • Aspen Dental opened three practices between Oct. 18 and Oct. 22.

2019

  • In January, Aspen Dental launched a new marketing campaign, the DSO's first integrated campaign featuring national and local TV advertising, radio, paid search and social media.
  • Walgreens opened its first dental location at its Palatka, Fla., store in collaboration with Aspen Dental.
  • Aspen Dental opened a new scheduling center in Chandler, Ariz., with plans to add 400 jobs at the building.
  • Abhinav Shukla was appointed COO in April. 
  • In October, Aspen Dental appointed Jan LeBeau vice president of hygiene support for the West Coast.
  • In December, Aspen Dental opened its 800th U.S. office in Southern Pines, N.C.

2020

  • In February, Aspen Dental expanded its implant program to provide support to practice owners implementing 3D imaging and surface scanning technologies. 
  • In June, Aspen Dental debuted a digital check-in system in all of its practices nationwide to reduce its environmental impact and save time for dental staff and patients.

2021

  • Aspen Dental opened its first practice in Colorado in March. 
  • The DSO opened its 100th Florida practice in March. 
  • Aspen Dental opened its 25th Missouri office in April. 
  • The organization launched Motto, its exclusive line of doctor-guided, same-day clear aligners.
  • The DSO opened its 900th U.S. office in Mount Pocono, Pa., in June.
  • Aspen Dental opened its fifth New Jersey office in August. 
  • Aspen partnered with medical technology company Forward Science to provide a line of oral rinses at its dental practices.
  • In October, the DSO said it would add SprintRay's 3D printing technology at all of its offices nationwide.
  • In December, Aspen Dental's parent company announced it rebranded to the Aspen Group to reflect its expansion in the healthcare industry.

2022

  • In February, Aspen Dental said it would convert all of its offices to be fully digital by early 2023.
  • The DSO announced in April that it had trained more than 1,400 dentists on dental implant services since December 2020 and aimed to train 700 more in 2022.
  • Aspen Dental partnered with the Dental Assisting National Board and its affiliate organization, the Dale Foundation, to invest in dental radiography training and credentials for dental assistants in the Aspen Dental network.
  • Aspen Dental opened its first co-location with Clear Choice Dental Implant Centers in Albuquerque, N.M.
  • Aspen opened its Oral Care Center of Excellence in Chicago in July.
  • In August, Aspen hired Payam Ataii, DMD, to be its senior vice president of orthodontic support.
